Tiffen 44CGSF3 4x4 CLR/Skyfire 3 Grad Filter
Tiffen 44CGSF3 4x4 CLR/Skyfire 3 Grad Filter | Shape colour across the sky
Bring a graduated Skyfire colour effect to the sky while keeping the rest of the scene clear. The Tiffen 44CGSF3 is a 4x4 CLR/Skyfire 3 grad filter for photographers and filmmakers who want to shape colour in-camera, especially in landscapes and scenes with a defined horizon. Its graduated design lets you position the coloured area over part of the frame, rather than tinting the whole image. That makes it useful when you want a more expressive sky without applying the same colour effect to the foreground. The 4x4 format gives you a defined filter size to work with in a compatible filter setup. For a landscape, align the transition with the horizon and adjust its position to suit the composition. The result depends on where you place the graduation; it’s an intentional colour treatment, not a neutral filter for balancing every scene.
Specialist Note
A pale sky that distracts from the landscape is the sort of imbalance this filter is made to address. I’d consider the Tiffen when you want a Skyfire colour effect across just part of the frame: for a sunset-style landscape, position the graduated area over the sky and keep the transition near the horizon. The 4x4 format is useful when your filter setup is made for that size, while the CLR/Skyfire 3 Grad designation points to a transition from clear to the Skyfire effect. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want that look while shooting. One honest caveat: it’s a visible creative treatment, so it won’t suit a scene where you want natural, unchanged sky colour.
