Tiffen 44CGTO1S 4x4 CLR/Tobacco 1 SE Filter
Tiffen 44CGTO1S 4x4 CLR/Tobacco 1 SE Filter | Shape light with warm colour
Tiffen 44CGTO1S 4x4 CLR/Tobacco 1 SE Filter is a 4x4-format filter with a clear-to-tobacco gradation and a soft edge. It’s made for image-makers who want to add warmth to part of a frame while leaving the rest less affected. That makes it a considered tool for landscapes, exterior architecture and scenes where a cooler or pale sky needs a warmer tone to sit more naturally with the foreground. The soft-edge transition is suited to frames without a perfectly straight boundary between bright and darker areas; positioning the filter lets you decide where the colour shift falls. The Tobacco 1 designation identifies the filter’s colour grade, so this is about shaping the look in-camera rather than simply protecting a lens. It’s a specialised creative effect, not a neutral fix: if you want to keep colours completely unchanged, this isn’t the filter to reach for.
Specialist Note
As the afternoon light fades over a broad landscape, this filter gives you a way to bring a tobacco tone into part of the frame without colouring the whole image equally. The 4x4 format is useful when you need to position the gradation across your composition; take a moment to line up its transition with the scene’s change in brightness. Its soft-edge designation suits less sharply defined horizons better than a hard boundary would. I’d suggest it to photographers and filmmakers who want that warm colour effect as they make the image, especially in open landscapes or exterior views. One limitation: a graduated tint covers an area of the frame, so it won’t isolate a small, irregular subject.
