Tiffen 44TO1 4x4 Tobacco 1 Filter
Tiffen 44TO1 4x4 Tobacco 1 Filter | Add a tobacco-toned look
The Tiffen 44TO1 4x4 Tobacco 1 Filter is a 4x4 filter with a tobacco designation for image-makers who want to shape colour in camera. It suits photographers and filmmakers who work with square filters and want a warm, brown-toned treatment as part of the picture, rather than adding that look later in editing. The Tobacco 1 name identifies the filter’s particular colour effect; the 4x4 format tells you the filter size. That makes it a considered option for planned portraits, landscapes or scenes where a warmer colour mood supports the subject. It’s most useful when you want to make that choice while composing and exposing, and keep the colour treatment consistent across a sequence. This is a specific colour-effect filter, not a general-purpose filter description, so choose it for the tobacco-toned look rather than expecting it to serve as a neutral filter.
Specialist Note
Portrait and landscape photographers who want a tobacco-coloured cast built into the image are the people I’d point toward this filter. The Tobacco 1 designation is the key: use it when that warm, earthy treatment suits the scene, rather than reaching for it as an everyday neutral. For a portrait, try it where the warmer colour supports the mood; for a landscape, use it when you want the scene’s colour to feel less cool. Its 4x4 size makes the filter format an important part of your setup, so plan around that size before choosing it for a shoot. The honest limitation is that this is a deliberate colour effect, so it won’t suit every subject or colour palette.
