Tiffen 6666CC10Y 6.6x6.6 CC10Y Filter
Tiffen 6666CC10Y 6.6x6.6 CC10Y Filter | A considered yellow colour adjustment
Cool-looking tones can be brought closer to neutral with the Tiffen CC10Y filter. It’s a colour-compensation filter for photographers and filmmakers who want to adjust colour at the time of capture rather than rely entirely on correction later. The CC10Y designation identifies a yellow filter, useful when a scene has an unwanted blue cast. Its large, square 6.6 x 6.6 format suits setups designed for filters of that size, rather than the small circular filters that screw onto a lens. This is a specialised tool: it makes most sense when you have a particular colour balance to correct and want a repeatable adjustment across a shot. For a scene with mixed light sources, though, one filter may not make every area look neutral. Think of it as a deliberate correction, not an automatic fix for every lighting situation.
Specialist Note
The Tiffen CC10Y is best at taking the edge off a cool, blue colour cast. The yellow designation tells you the direction of its correction, so it’s worth considering for scenes where neutral surfaces look too blue and you want to address that before the image is finished. Its 6.6 x 6.6-inch square format is a practical clue about the kind of setup it suits: one built to work with filters in that size, not a compact lens-front screw-in arrangement. I’d consider it for controlled portraits or a carefully lit interior, then judge the result against a neutral reference in the same light. One limitation: where different light sources cast different colours, this filter can’t correct each one separately.
