Tiffen FW3BPM14 Filter Wheel 3 BLK Promist 1/4
Tiffen FW3BPM14 Filter Wheel 3 BLK Promist 1/4 | Subtle diffusion for softened highlights
Tiffen FW3BPM14 Filter Wheel 3 BLK Promist 1/4 is a Black Pro-Mist filter with a 1/4 strength, built for filmmakers and photographers who want to shape the way highlights appear in a shot. Black Pro-Mist diffusion softens bright points of light and gently reduces contrast, adding a visible glow without turning the whole image into a haze. It’s especially suited to portraits and scenes with practical lights, where that softened highlight treatment can add atmosphere while keeping the subject clear. The 1/4 grade gives you a restrained effect to work with: noticeable enough to influence the look, but more subtle than a heavier diffusion treatment. This is a creative filter, not a neutral one, so it makes sense when you’re choosing a particular rendering rather than aiming for the crispest possible image. The Filter Wheel 3 wording is part of the product name; no camera-system compatibility is assumed here.
Specialist Note
Bright highlights take on a soft glow, while the Black Pro-Mist treatment keeps that effect more controlled than an overall misty wash. I’d consider this 1/4 grade for portraits with a bright practical in the background, or for a scene where a small point light should bloom gently: keep that light in the frame and let the filter shape its appearance. The quarter-strength rating makes this a measured creative effect, rather than a heavy diffusion look. It suits image-makers who want atmosphere while retaining a clear view of the subject. One honest point: if your brief calls for sharp, punchy highlights with no glow, this filter is working against that look.
