Tilta TK-58-PB12-B Khronos Magnetic 58mm Polarizer w/ Black Mist 1/2Filter-Black
Tilta TK-58-PB12-B Khronos Magnetic 58mm Polarizer w/ Black Mist 1/2Filter-Black | Reflection control with softened highlights
Its unusual pairing of a polarizer and a Black Mist 1/2 effect makes this Tilta filter a considered option for photographers and filmmakers who want to manage reflections while giving bright highlights a gentler look. The 58mm magnetic filter combines those two effects in one piece, rather than asking you to choose between a polarizer and diffusion. Use the polarizing effect when reflections on glass or water are distracting; the Black Mist element brings a softer character to bright light sources in the frame. It’s suited to controlled portraits, city scenes and video work where reflections and hard highlights can compete with your subject. The balance of effects is the point here, though it does mean this isn’t a plain polarizer: the mist treatment also influences the image. If you want both qualities together, this filter offers a focused way to shape the look.
Specialist Note
58mm is the size to match in your magnetic filter setup, so it’s worth treating that number as your first check before planning a shot. The Black Mist 1/2 strength gives you a defined diffusion look; I’d use it with bright practical lights in a portrait to take the edge off their appearance without losing them from the frame. For a shop window or water, turn the polarizer while watching the reflection, and stop when the subject behind it reads clearly. This suits image makers who want reflection control and softened highlights in one filter. One honest point: polarization depends on your shooting angle, so the effect won’t be equally strong from every position.
