TTArtisan Tilt 35mm f/1.4 APS-C - M43

TTArtisan Tilt 35mm f/1.4 APS-C - M43: Create miniature-style street scenes

Ordinary streets can take on a miniature look, with a narrow area of sharpness surrounded by soft blur. The TTArtisan Tilt 35mm f/1.4 APS-C - M43 is a manual-focus 35mm standard prime with a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture and a tilt mechanism that changes the direction of the focus plane. Rather than keeping focus parallel to the sensor, tilt lets you place it to shape which parts of the scene appear sharp. That makes the lens especially distinctive for street and travel photography: use selective focus to give a row of buildings or a busy street a small-scale feel, or orient the sharp area along a diagonal subject. Its 44° angle of view gives a natural, considered framing for shopfronts, street details and scenes encountered on a trip. With tilt disengaged, it also works as a conventional 35mm lens. The f/1.4 aperture is useful in lower light and creates shallow depth of field, while manual focus and aperture keep control in your hands. This is a specialist lens for making deliberate choices about focus, with a familiar standard-prime view at its core.

Tilt controls for deliberate focus

• 8° tilt movement: Angle the focus plane to create a slim band of sharpness with blur around it, or to keep more of a diagonally placed subject in focus.
• 360° rotation: Rotate the tilt assembly to set the direction of the focus effect to suit your composition. Markings at 15° intervals help you return to a position.
• Separate locking screws: Lock the tilt and rotation adjustments independently once they’re set, so the chosen position stays put while you compose.
• Clickless aperture control: The aperture ring moves continuously rather than in clicks, allowing smooth exposure changes during video recording.
• Cine-style gear ring: The geared control design supports use with video equipment that operates lens rings through gears.
• Metal construction: The all-metal body gives this specialist lens a solid, straightforward feel, with manual controls for focus and aperture.

On your camera

This version has a Micro Four Thirds (M43) mount and is intended for cameras with that mount. The lens is specified for APS-C format and uses manual focus, so focusing is set at the lens rather than by camera autofocus. That hands-on approach works particularly well for carefully composed stills and planned video shots, where you can take time to place the focus effect before recording or making the exposure.
