Ulanzi UV01 Explosion-proof UV Filter 49mm
Ulanzi UV01 Explosion-proof UV Filter 49mm | A simple front filter for everyday use
On a busy walk, when you’d rather not have the lens’s front glass exposed, a filter can add a layer in front. The Ulanzi UV01 is a UV filter sized at 49mm, for photographers whose lens accepts that filter size and who want a UV filter on the lens during everyday shooting. Its UV designation tells you the type of filter it is; it isn’t a polarising filter or a neutral-density filter for controlling bright light. Think of it as a straightforward option for keeping a filter in place, rather than as a way to change the look of a scene. If you’re choosing one for a particular lens, match the filter size to the lens’s front filter fitting. That simple check is the key to making sure the filter is the right size for your setup.
A practical fit
This filter makes sense for a photographer who wants a UV filter on a 49mm lens for regular outdoor or day-to-day use. Once fitted, it stays in front of the lens while you compose and shoot, so you don’t need to handle it for each photograph. It won’t darken the scene for a slow shutter speed or give you the effects of a polariser; choose it for its UV-filter type, not for those jobs. The product name also describes it as “explosion-proof”, but that wording shouldn’t be taken as a claim of certified protection for hazardous environments.
Specialist Note
Keeping the lens’s front element from being the first surface exposed is the practical reason to consider a filter like this. I’d match the UV01’s 49mm size to a lens with a 49mm front filter fitting, then leave it on for routine outdoor photography rather than repeatedly taking it on and off. That’s a straightforward use for someone who wants a UV filter in place without using a filter to alter exposure or colour effects. Ulanzi calls this model “explosion-proof”; I’d treat that as part of its product name, not as permission to rely on it in an explosive or otherwise hazardous setting. For a normal camera setup, size match comes first.
