Urth 62mm CPL Lens Filter Pro

Urth 62mm CPL Lens Filter Pro | Control glare in bright scenes

Glare on water, glass and shiny surfaces can hide the detail you want in a photograph. The Urth 62mm CPL Lens Filter Pro is a circular polarising filter that helps reduce those reflections, so more of the scene shows through. It can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky, depending on your shooting angle. A CPL is especially handy for landscape, travel and outdoor photography, or when photographing through a shop window. The 62mm size is the filter diameter: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 62mm filter thread. As you adjust the filter’s orientation, watch the reflected light change in the viewfinder and stop when the effect suits the scene. It won’t remove every reflection, and its effect varies with the light and your angle to the subject.

Using a CPL in the field

For water, try adjusting the filter while looking at the surface; the reflection will change as you turn it. With glass, a small shift in your position can also affect what the filter can suppress. That makes a CPL a considered tool rather than an automatic fix: check the view as you adjust, and keep some reflection if it helps describe the surface. Its effect is most apparent when there’s reflected light to manage.
