Westcott FJ80 Magnetic Diffusion Dome

Westcott FJ80 Magnetic Diffusion Dome | Softer flash light in a dome diffuser

Westcott FJ80 Magnetic Diffusion Dome is a magnetic dome diffuser for photographers who want to soften flash light. Its name gives you the key detail: the dome attaches magnetically. It suits anyone looking for a diffuser in this form, especially when a direct flash look feels too hard for the subject or scene. A diffusion dome’s job is to spread and soften light, so this is best considered for situations where you want a gentler-looking flash rather than a bare, direct beam. That can be helpful for portraits and nearby subjects, where the character of the light is easy to notice. The honest point is that a diffuser changes the light, but it doesn’t decide where that light goes; your flash position and the room still matter. The product name includes FJ80, but it doesn’t tell us which equipment it fits, so we’ve kept the description to what’s confirmed.

What a diffusion dome is for

A dome diffuser is a simple way to modify flash light at the source. Instead of sending the flash out as a bare, direct beam, diffusion spreads the light, giving it a softer character. That makes this type of accessory worth considering when you want to reduce the stark look that direct flash can create on a subject. It’s a modest tool with a specific job, rather than a solution for every lighting situation. You’ll still need to choose your flash position with care, and the result depends on the scene around you. In a small space, nearby surfaces can affect how the light looks; outdoors, there may be less around to influence it. Think of the Westcott FJ80 Magnetic Diffusion Dome as a way to alter the flash light itself, not as a substitute for positioning or judging the light as you work.
