Zhiyun Octagonal Softbox 90D (Bowens Mount)

Zhiyun Octagonal Softbox 90D (Bowens Mount) | Shape softer, rounded light

For portraits and other setups where you want softer light with a rounded catchlight, the Zhiyun Octagonal Softbox 90D (Bowens Mount) gives you an octagonal shape and a Bowens mount. A softbox helps spread and soften a light source; its shape also gives reflections a more rounded outline than a rectangular softbox. That makes this a straightforward option when the look of the light matters as much as simply brightening a scene. The 90D is part of the product name, so I’d use that designation when searching for the model. The mount is the practical detail to match to your lighting setup. There’s no need to overcomplicate the choice: this is an octagonal softbox for a Bowens-mount setup, with a shape that suits portrait lighting particularly well.

What the octagonal shape brings

An octagonal softbox gives light a distinct direction while softening its effect on the subject. In a portrait, the shape can be reflected in the eyes as a rounded catchlight, which many photographers prefer to a hard-edged rectangular reflection. It can also be used when photographing objects, where softer light helps keep shadows from looking harsh. The result still depends on how you position the light and subject; the softbox itself doesn’t set the mood for you. Think of this as a light-shaping tool, not a lighting recipe. Its defining details are simple: an octagonal form, the 90D designation and a Bowens mount. If those are the details you’re looking for, this model keeps the choice focused.
