Desq Photo Diffuser Nik SB-900
Desq Photo Diffuser Nik SB-900 | Softer light for macro work
Without a diffuser, close-up flash can leave a small subject looking harshly lit. The Desq Photo Diffuser Nik SB-900 is a macro flash product intended to help with that particular kind of photography: close-up views and fine detail. It suits photographers who use flash for small subjects and want to soften the light falling on them, rather than relying on direct flash alone. Its focus is specific, which is helpful if macro work is where you need more control over the look of your lighting. Think of it as a dedicated accessory for close-range photography, not a general-purpose answer to every lighting situation. For flowers, small objects or other subjects where surface detail matters, diffused light can give you a gentler-looking result. The product name identifies the SB-900, so this is a targeted option rather than an unspecified diffuser.
Specialist Note
This is a narrowly focused piece of kit, so it won’t be the answer for everyday flash photography; its value is in close-up work. As a macro flash diffuser, it’s aimed at softening the light on small subjects, where direct flash can look stark. I’d consider it for flower details or small tabletop subjects when you want the lighting to feel less abrupt. The SB-900 designation is the detail to pay attention to: this is a product named for that flash, not a universal lighting accessory. If macro photography is a regular part of your work, that specific purpose is a sensible reason to choose it. There’s no supplied exposure setting to recommend, so adjust your flash exposure to suit the subject and scene.
