Formatt Hitech 77mm Circular Polariser For Firecrest 85mm Holder
Formatt Hitech 77mm Circular Polariser For Firecrest 85mm Holder | Tame reflections
Reflections on water, glass or glossy leaves can hide the detail you want, while bright glare can make a scene feel harsher than it looked to you. This circular polariser is made to help manage those reflections: rotate it while looking through the camera and watch how the reflected light changes. It suits photographers using a Firecrest holder setup who want more control over glare in landscapes, architecture or close views of shiny surfaces. The most useful result is often selective: reduce a reflection enough to reveal what’s behind it, rather than expecting every bright surface to disappear. It can also change how the sky appears, depending on your shooting angle. The effect varies with the light and your position, so take a moment to turn the filter and judge the result in the viewfinder. This is a hands-on filter, not an automatic correction.
Specialist Note
At 77mm, I’d make a habit of checking the filter size against the rest of your setup before heading out; that number is the key detail when you’re choosing a filter for a particular arrangement. The name also specifies the Firecrest 85mm holder, so this is aimed at photographers already working with that holder rather than someone shopping for a general-purpose polariser. For water or a shop window, rotate the filter slowly while viewing the scene and stop when the reflection has eased but the subject still looks natural. I’d use it when reflected light is getting in the way of the picture. One honest caveat: the effect depends on the angle of the light, so it won’t remove every reflection.
