Formatt Hitech 85x110mm Grad Kit 6 (3 Filter NDSEG Kit)
Formatt Hitech 85x110mm Grad Kit 6 (3 Filter NDSEG Kit) | Balance bright skies in landscapes
A bright sky can push you into choosing between holding detail in the clouds and keeping the foreground properly exposed. The Formatt Hitech 85x110mm Grad Kit 6 is a three-filter graduated ND set for photographers who want to manage that difference in-camera. Its graduated effect lets you reduce light in one part of the frame while leaving the rest less affected, which is especially useful when a landscape has a clear horizon and a much brighter sky. It can also help with outdoor architecture where the sky is pulling attention away from the building. This is a focused tool for shaping exposure across a scene, rather than darkening the whole image. If you regularly work with bright skies, it gives you a way to balance the frame as you compose, instead of relying on a broad exposure compromise.
Specialist Note
The graduated effect has a limit: it’s less suited to a scene where the brightest area cuts irregularly through the frame. For a landscape with a fairly clear horizon, though, this is a practical way to bring sky brightness under control without darkening the foreground to the same degree. The 85 × 110 mm format is a useful detail to consider when choosing your filter setup; make sure your holder accepts that size. The NDSEG designation points to graduated ND filters, and the kit’s three-filter format gives you options for matching the transition to different scenes. I’d consider it for open landscapes or seascapes where the sky is the exposure problem.
