Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100x100mm Nightscape Light Pollution (Astro Sodium)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100x100mm Nightscape Light Pollution (Astro Sodium) | Manage sodium glow in night skies
When sodium-lit streets wash a warm glow across a nightscape, this square filter is made for that particular challenge. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Nightscape Light Pollution filter is designated “Astro Sodium,” identifying its focus on sodium light pollution in night-sky photography. It’s aimed at astrophotographers and nightscape photographers working near lit areas who want to address that source of sky glow while composing a scene. The 100x100mm format gives you a square filter size to work with in a compatible filter setup. Keep your expectations specific: this is a filter named for sodium light pollution, not a general fix for every kind of artificial sky glow. For a city-edge sky or a landscape with sodium-lit streets in the frame, it’s a purpose-made option to consider as part of your night-photography setup.
Specialist Note
The 100x100mm square format gives this filter a clear physical footprint to plan around: it’s for photographers already working with a compatible square-filter setup, rather than a screw-in filter. I’d consider it when sodium-lit urban glow is affecting a night-sky composition, especially with a town or road close to the horizon. Compose the scene with those lights in mind, then assess the sky in your frames with the filter in place. The “Astro Sodium” designation is the useful clue to its intended target. I wouldn’t assume it will deal equally with every kind of light pollution, so it pairs best with careful location and composition choices.
