Formatt Hitech Firecrest 46mm Superslim UV IR Cut
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 46mm Superslim UV IR Cut | Focused UV and infrared filtering
Without a dedicated UV/IR-cut filter, there’s no filter in front of the lens assigned to screening those parts of the light spectrum. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 46mm Superslim UV IR Cut is for photographers who want that specific filtering in their setup, rather than a general-purpose effect. Its purpose is clear from its name: it’s designed to cut UV and IR. That makes it relevant when you’re choosing filtration for a particular reason and want the filter’s role to be easy to understand. It suits a photographer who already knows UV/IR filtering is wanted in the optical path, whether for considered landscape work or routine outdoor photography. This is a focused tool, not an all-purpose answer to every lighting problem. If UV/IR filtering is the task, this Firecrest keeps the choice specific and uncomplicated.
Specialist Note
For a 46mm lens setup where UV/IR filtering is the point, I’d fit this before I start composing, so that choice is part of the setup from the outset. The 46mm size gives you a clear matching reference when choosing a filter, while the Superslim profile means the filter stays low-profile at the front of the lens. For outdoor landscapes or architecture, it’s a straightforward way to keep the same UV/IR-cut approach from frame to frame. I’d recommend it to someone who specifically wants that kind of filtering, rather than someone simply looking for a broad creative effect. It’s a specialist filter, and that focused purpose is its main appeal.
