Formatt Hitech Firecrest 85x85mm Nightscape Light Pollution (Astro Sodium)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 85x85mm Nightscape Light Pollution (Astro Sodium) | Target sodium glow in nightscapes
Framing a nightscape near a town can leave sodium street lighting glowing across the sky. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Nightscape Light Pollution filter is intended for that specific challenge: it’s identified as an Astro Sodium filter, for photographers working with night skies affected by sodium lighting. Its square format measures 85 x 85 mm, a useful detail when planning how it will fit into your filter setup. This is a specialist option for astrophotography and night landscape work, rather than a general-purpose filter for every lighting condition. Use it when sodium-lit surroundings are part of the scene and you want to address that particular source of light pollution. It won’t remove every kind of artificial glow, so the results will depend on the lighting in your location.
Specialist Note
Sodium-lit skies can add a stubborn glow to a nightscape, and this filter is named for that exact problem. I’d consider it for astrophotographers working near street lighting, or for a night landscape with a town on the horizon. The Astro Sodium designation makes its intended use clear; it’s a targeted tool, not a fix for every source of light pollution. Its 85 x 85 mm square format is the practical point to plan around: your filter setup needs to accommodate that size. I’d use it when sodium lighting is the distraction, while keeping expectations measured if other kinds of lighting are present too.
