Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 105mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 105mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | A subtle one-stop reduction for controlled exposure
On a bright day, you might want a slower shutter speed to show movement in a stream, or a wider aperture to soften the background. If your exposure is already close to where you want it, changing those settings can alter the look of the picture. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 105mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter is a neutral-density filter that reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you a measured adjustment to work with. It suits photographers who want a little more control over exposure without making a dramatic change. Its strength is most useful for fine adjustments: maintaining a chosen aperture in brighter conditions or lengthening an exposure slightly. It’s not a strong filter for creating very long daytime exposures by itself, but that modest reduction can be just what a carefully balanced scene needs.
At a glance
- Neutral-density filter
- ND 0.3, equivalent to one stop
- 105mm filter size
What one stop can do
A one-stop reduction gives you room to adjust exposure while keeping another setting fixed. For example, you can double the shutter time and retain the same aperture and ISO, which can add a little more visible motion without a larger exposure change.
Specialist Note
The Firecrest ND 0.3 gives you a one-stop exposure adjustment without forcing you to change the aperture you chose. That’s handy for keeping a wide aperture in brighter conditions, or for taking the edge off shutter speed when you want a little more motion in a stream. With one stop, a starting point of 1/125 sec becomes about 1/60 sec at the same aperture and ISO. The 105mm size is the detail to match to your filter setup; don’t assume it suits every lens. It’s a subtle reduction, so for very long daytime exposures you’ll need a stronger ND filter.
