Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | Reduce light by one stop
A one-stop reduction makes this filter a modest, controlled way to cut the light reaching your camera, without making a large change to your exposure. It suits photographers who need a little more room to work with shutter speed or aperture in bright conditions, and whose lens takes a 49mm filter. An ND filter can help you use a slower shutter speed to show some movement, or keep a wider aperture when the scene is brighter than you want. This ND 0.3 rating corresponds to one stop of light reduction, so the effect is deliberately subtle: it won't turn a bright daytime scene into a long-exposure blur on its own. The Firecrest is best considered for small exposure adjustments, rather than heavy light control. If you want a measured change and prefer to make the final exposure decision yourself, this 49mm filter gives you a straightforward way to do that.
Specialist Note
One stop means you can roughly double the exposure time while keeping the same exposure, which is a useful, restrained adjustment in bright light. I’d suggest it to someone with a 49mm lens who wants a touch more control, not a dramatic long exposure. For example, if your meter calls for 1/125 sec, you can try around 1/60 sec with the filter in place to give moving water or foliage a little more motion. It can also help you keep a wider aperture when the available light is just a bit too strong. The honest limit is its strength: for pronounced motion blur, one stop may not be enough.
