Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | Make small exposure adjustments
For a slightly slower shutter or a wider aperture in bright light, this filter reduces the light reaching your camera by one stop, giving you a little more control without a dramatic exposure change. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter is a neutral-density filter for photographers who want that measured adjustment while keeping their chosen scene and framing. A one-stop reduction lets you, for example, double the shutter time while keeping exposure consistent, or open the aperture by one stop and compensate elsewhere. That can help introduce a touch of motion into a moving subject or make it easier to use your preferred aperture in daylight. Its modest strength is the point: it suits fine exposure adjustments rather than the very long shutter effects that need a much stronger ND filter. It’s a straightforward option when you want just a little extra room to shape exposure.
Specialist Note
Harsh daylight can force you to choose between your preferred aperture and a shutter speed that freezes everything; this filter gives you one stop of breathing room. The 82mm size is the detail to match against a lens’s filter thread, so it’s a useful fit if that’s the size you use. With the ND 0.3 reduction, a shutter speed of 1/60 sec can become 1/30 sec at the same exposure—enough to show a hint of movement in a small stream or passing people. I’d use it for subtle changes, or to open the aperture by one stop in bright conditions. It won’t create a dramatic silky-water exposure on its own; for that, you’d need more light reduction.
