Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stop)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stop) | A little more control over bright scenes
To slow your shutter slightly or open your aperture without changing the look of the light, a one-stop neutral density filter gives you a measured reduction in exposure. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stop) cuts the light reaching the camera by one stop, a subtle adjustment for landscape and architectural photographers working in bright conditions. It can, for example, let you use a slower shutter to show a touch more movement in water, or open the aperture by one stop while keeping the same exposure. That’s useful when your preferred settings are just beyond what the available light allows, rather than when you’re aiming for dramatic long exposures. The 105mm size is relevant when matching the filter to your filter setup. If you want a modest, predictable change rather than a heavy reduction in light, this filter offers a straightforward way to make it.
Specialist Note
A small exposure mismatch can force you away from the shutter speed or aperture you actually want; this filter gives you one stop of room to adjust. Its 0.3 density is a gentle reduction, so I’d consider it for landscapes where you want to slow water a little, or for a bright scene where opening the aperture by one stop suits your framing. For instance, a change from 1/125 sec to about 1/60 sec uses that extra stop for a slightly longer exposure. The 105mm size is the detail to match to your filter setup. It won’t create pronounced motion blur on its own, but that restrained effect is useful when you only need a small adjustment.
