Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 6.0 (20 Stop)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 6.0 (20 Stop) | Create long-exposure blur in bright conditions
Turn moving water into a soft blur or give clouds a sense of motion with a much longer exposure. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 6.0 (20 Stop) is an exceptionally strong neutral density filter, reducing the light reaching the camera by 20 stops. That lets you use a slow shutter speed even when the scene is bright, rather than waiting for darker conditions to make a long exposure possible. It suits photographers who want deliberate motion blur in landscapes or architecture, and who are comfortable planning an exposure around such a substantial reduction in light. The 105mm size is a key detail when matching the filter to your existing filter setup. With this much light reduction, exposure times can become very long, so it’s best suited to scenes that can stay still while water, clouds or other movement changes across the frame.
Specialist Note
This 20-stop filter lets you make a very long exposure without building up the same reduction by stacking several weaker filters. I’d consider it for smoothing moving water or giving clouds a drawn-out trail in a landscape. For a sense of the exposure shift, a scene that meters at 1/500 sec would need about 35 minutes at the same aperture and ISO with 20 stops added. That’s a dramatic change, and it’s also the honest limitation: moving subjects can disappear or become heavily blurred, and very long exposures need careful timing. The 105mm size makes matching your existing filter setup essential; for the right setup, this is a specialist tool for extreme shutter speeds.
