Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 127mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 127mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stops) | Gain one stop of exposure control
Bright conditions can leave you with a shutter speed that’s too fast for the movement you want to show, or force you to use a smaller aperture than you’d prefer. This Formatt Hitech neutral density filter reduces the light reaching your camera by one stop, giving you a little more room to choose your exposure. That’s useful when you want a longer shutter speed for gently blurred water, or want to open the aperture while keeping the exposure balanced. Its 0.3 rating corresponds to one stop of light reduction: a deliberate, modest change rather than a dramatic darkening effect. The 127mm size makes it a specialist filter to match with a setup designed for that format. It’ll suit photographers who want measured exposure control in bright light, and who know that a single stop is enough for the adjustment they have in mind.
Specialist Note
A one-stop reduction won’t turn a bright midday scene into a long-exposure effect on its own; that’s the honest limit. But it’s a very practical amount when you only need a small exposure adjustment. The 0.3 density gives you that single stop, so, for example, a 1-second exposure can become 2 seconds at the same aperture and ISO. I’d point landscape photographers towards it for a restrained softening of moving water, or anyone who wants to open the aperture by one stop in bright conditions. The 127mm size is a key part of the decision: make sure your filter setup is built around that format.
