Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 127mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 127mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops) | Control exposure by two stops
Here, the useful distinction is a clearly defined two-stop reduction in light, rather than an unspecified level of darkening. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra Neutral Density 0.6 is for photographers who want more control over exposure while keeping their chosen aperture, or who want to use a slower shutter speed. It suits landscape and long-exposure work, as well as situations where you need to adjust exposure without changing other camera settings. The 127mm size makes it relevant to setups designed to take filters of that diameter; it’s not a small, universal screw-on size. A two-stop reduction is a practical, manageable adjustment: for example, a shutter speed around 1/250 sec can become roughly 1/60 sec at the same exposure, subject to your metering. That can help show movement in water or clouds. It’s a focused tool for exposure control, not a substitute for a stronger filter when you need a much longer exposure.
Specialist Note
Two stops means you can give the sensor four times as long to gather light, or close the aperture by two stops, while keeping the exposure equivalent. The 0.6 designation identifies that measured reduction, so it’s a clear fit when you want a moderate change rather than a very dark filter. For a flowing-water effect, meter without the filter, then lengthen the shutter time by about four times; a reading of 1/250 sec becomes roughly 1/60 sec. The 127mm diameter is the key practical detail: choose it for a filter setup that accepts that size. Its two-stop limit is worth bearing in mind if your aim is an especially long exposure in bright conditions.
