Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 82mm Neutral Density 0.1 (1 Stop)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 82mm Neutral Density 0.1 (1 Stop) | Make a small, controlled exposure adjustment
Bright light can leave you with a shutter speed that’s too fast for the motion you want to show, or an aperture that’s smaller than you’d prefer. This neutral density filter reduces the light reaching the camera by one stop, giving you a little more room to adjust your exposure without changing the scene’s lighting. It suits photographers who want a measured change rather than a strong reduction, for example when adding slight motion blur to moving water or easing a bright exposure while keeping their chosen aperture. The effect is straightforward: with ISO and aperture unchanged, you can use a shutter speed one stop slower. It’s a modest adjustment, so it won’t turn a short exposure into a dramatic long one on its own. For fine control in bright conditions, though, that small shift can be exactly what you need.
Specialist Note
“Is one stop enough to make a difference?” Yes, if you want a subtle exposure change rather than a dramatic filter effect. The 0.1 density gives you that single-stop adjustment: for example, if your meter suggests 1/125 sec, you can move to about 1/60 sec at the same aperture and ISO to show a little more movement. The 82mm size is the key fit detail, so it suits a lens with an 82mm filter thread. I’d consider it for gently softening a small stream or fine-tuning a bright scene while keeping an aperture you’ve chosen. Just bear in mind that one stop won’t create very long exposures in strong daylight.
