Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 95mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stop)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 95mm Neutral Density 0.3 (1 Stop) | Subtle light control for longer exposures
Bright light can make it hard to use a slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra Neutral Density 0.3 filter reduces the light reaching the camera by one stop, giving you a little more room to shape exposure. It’s aimed at photographers who want a measured adjustment rather than a strong darkening effect. That makes it useful when you want to introduce a little motion blur to moving water or clouds, or make a small exposure change in bright conditions while keeping your chosen composition. The 0.3 density is a modest step, so it won’t turn a bright midday scene into a long-exposure image by itself. Think of it as a fine adjustment to your exposure, not a substitute for a denser filter when you need a much longer shutter time. Its 95mm size is clearly stated in the product name, so it’s also easy to identify when choosing filters for your setup.
Specialist Note
One stop won’t give you dramatic long exposures in bright daylight, and that’s the honest limit here. The reason to choose this filter is its measured, subtle reduction: at 95mm, it’s intended for setups that take this filter size, and the 0.3 density gives you one stop of light control. For a gentle blur in moving water, try doubling your shutter time—for example, from 1/125 sec to about 1/60 sec—and adjust your exposure as needed. It also gives you a small shift when a scene is just a little too bright for the shutter speed you want. I’d point you to it if you want that restrained adjustment, rather than a heavy reduction.
