GREEN.L MC-CPL 82mm

GREEN.L MC-CPL 82mm | Control reflections in your photographs

Unlike a clear protective filter, the GREEN.L MC-CPL 82mm is made to change how reflected light appears in a photograph. It’s a circular polarizing filter, useful when glare from water, glass or shiny leaves is distracting you, or when you want a blue sky to appear deeper. Landscape photographers, travel shooters and anyone photographing through windows can make practical use of it. Rotate the filter while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen, and the reflection changes as you turn it; the effect depends on the angle of the light, so it won’t be equally strong in every scene. The 82mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with an 82mm filter thread. If you use lenses with different thread sizes, this one won’t fit them all directly. It’s a simple way to gain more control over reflections before you take the picture.

Using a polarizing filter

For reflections, set your composition first, then rotate the filter and compare the view as you go. On water, this can reveal more of what lies beneath the surface; on glass, it can make details behind the pane easier to see. The change is adjustable, so you can keep some reflection when it helps convey the scene. Polarization also varies across a wide view of the sky, so check the whole frame before taking the shot.
