H&Y HD EVO-Series IRND16 Filter Kit 82mm
H&Y HD EVO-Series IRND16 Filter Kit 82mm | Create long exposures in bright light
Long exposures in daylight can turn moving water into a soft, continuous surface and give clouds time to shift across the frame. The H&Y HD EVO-Series IRND16 Filter Kit 82mm is a strong neutral-density filter kit for photographers who want that slower-shutter look when the light is still bright. Its IRND16 designation refers to a 16-stop density: a substantial reduction in the light reaching the camera, so shutter times can stretch considerably without having to wait for dusk. The 82mm size is the key fit detail; it’s intended for a lens with an 82mm filter thread. This is a focused tool for deliberate long-exposure work, from smoothing a river to recording movement in a cloud-filled sky. It’s less suited to quick, constantly changing compositions, where the very long exposure calls for more planning.
Specialist Note
Bright midday light can close off the long shutter times you need for a calm, blurred-water effect; the IRND16’s 16-stop reduction gives you room to make that exposure in daylight. As a rough guide, a metered 1/60-second exposure becomes about 18 minutes with 16 stops added, so plan to use a tripod and keep the scene still apart from the movement you want to show. The 82mm size makes the lens thread the deciding detail: it suits a lens marked 82mm, not simply any camera in your bag. I’d point this kit towards landscape photographers who enjoy carefully composed water or cloud studies. That much density is powerful, but it’s not a quick filter to work with.
