JJC Flash Bounce Nikon SB-600 / Olympus FL-36 X | Tame direct flash

Direct flash can make a nearby face look stark; a diffuser gives you a way to soften the light. The JJC Flash Bounce is a diffuser for the Nikon SB-600 and Olympus FL-36 X, suited to people using either of these flash models who want gentler-looking light for portraits or casual indoor photographs. It’s a small, specific accessory rather than a general-purpose lighting system: its value is in changing how the flash looks when you use it on a compatible unit. That makes it worth considering for family gatherings, dinner-table pictures and simple portraits where direct flash feels too abrupt. It won’t change the room’s lighting or give you control over every shadow, and the result depends on the scene and how you use the flash. But if your SB-600 or FL-36 X is the light source you already reach for, this gives you a straightforward way to work with its output rather than relying on bare direct flash.

Specialist Note

For a one-person indoor portrait, I’d try the JJC diffuser on the flash before taking the first frame, then compare the face with and without it. Its purpose is to alter the flash’s direct light, which can make close portraits feel less harsh. It’s made for the Nikon SB-600 and Olympus FL-36 X, so it suits someone who owns one of those specific flash units and wants a simple way to soften the look at a family dinner or a quick portrait at home. My honest caveat: it’s tied to those named models, so it isn’t a general diffuser for every flash. Keep expectations to that focused job, and it makes sense.
