Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 77mm
Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 77mm | Balance bright skies
Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 77mm is a 77mm soft graduated neutral-density filter for controlling a bright part of the scene without darkening the whole image. It suits landscape photographers who want to keep detail in a bright sky while retaining a natural-looking foreground, especially when the horizon is uneven rather than a clean, straight line. The soft gradation gives the change in density a gradual transition across the frame. A 0.9 rating represents three stops of light reduction at the filter’s darkest area, helping narrow the exposure gap between sky and land or water. That makes it useful for coastlines, open hills and other scenes where the sky is brighter than the foreground. It’s a considered tool for shaping exposure in-camera; it won’t remove the need to judge where the transition falls in a particular composition.
Specialist Note
Early light is breaking over a ridgeline, but the sky is already much brighter than the land below. This is where a soft GND earns its place: I’d position its gradual transition across the skyline, so the darker area controls the sky without creating a hard boundary along the hills. The 0.9 rating gives up to three stops of reduction in the darkest area, useful when a small exposure adjustment won’t hold both parts of the scene. It suits landscape photographers who want to manage that contrast as they frame. One thing to watch: trees or buildings rising into the darker area can be darkened too, so check their position in the composition.
