Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 82mm
Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 82mm | Balance bright skies and darker land
A bright sky above darker land can leave a landscape scene with a difficult choice: keep detail in the sky, or expose for the foreground. The Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 is a graduated neutral density filter, designed to reduce the brightness in part of the frame while leaving the rest less affected. Its soft graduation gives you a gentler transition across the image, which is useful when the skyline isn’t a perfectly straight line. The 0.9 designation identifies the filter’s density, while 82mm specifies its size. It’s aimed at landscape photographers and anyone working with scenes where the sky and ground need different exposure treatment. Use it to bring a bright portion of the composition closer to the darker foreground, then frame the transition carefully around the horizon. That can help keep more of the scene within a workable exposure, rather than relying on a strong edit to recover it later. It’s a focused tool for managing contrast in-camera, not a general-purpose filter for every kind of photograph.
Specialist Note
A bright sky washing out the land below is exactly the sort of exposure mismatch this filter is meant to address. The soft graduation is helpful when the horizon includes a varied outline: place the transition across the boundary and its gentler change is less abrupt than a hard division. The 0.9 density gives you a defined level of darkening in the graduated area, so it’s worth checking the balance through the frame rather than assuming the same placement suits every scene. At 82mm, it’s a size-specific filter, so plan around that diameter in your filter setup. I’d consider it for open landscapes and coastal views; trees or buildings crossing the transition can still show the filter’s effect.
