Kowa Binocular SVII 10x42

Kowa Binocular SVII 10x42 - 10x magnification with a 42 mm objective lens

The Kowa Binocular SVII 10x42 pairs 10x magnification with 42 mm objective lenses in a 670 g roof-prism binocular. It’s a capable option for birdwatchers, sports spectators and travellers who want a clear, detailed view without carrying a large instrument. The 105 m field of view at 1,000 m gives you a broad area to scan, useful when following birds through trees or keeping track of movement at an outdoor sports event. Ten-times magnification also brings distant aircraft and wildlife closer for observation. Its compact dimensions of 17.2 × 12.8 × 5.6 cm make it easy to pack for a city visit or a day out on foot or by bicycle. Kowa uses Japanese eco-glass throughout the optics, with multi-coatings across the optical surfaces and phase-coated roof prisms. Those details are aimed at a bright, crisp image with good colour and contrast. The binocular is waterproof and nitrogen-filled, so changing temperatures won’t cause internal fogging. The SVII is a straightforward, versatile companion for regular outdoor viewing, with a central focus wheel and a dioptre adjustment to set the view for the individual user.

What it does

• Multi-coated optics: Coatings cover all optical surfaces to support light transmission, brightness, colour and contrast. That’s useful when you’re watching detail in changing outdoor light.
• Phase-coated roof prisms: Phase coatings improve the prisms’ reflective performance, contributing to a sharper-looking image. The binocular uses BaK-4 prisms.
• Kowa KR lens coating: The repelling coating discourages grease, liquid and dirt from clinging to the lenses. It also means less rubbing is needed during cleaning, reducing the risk of scratching the glass.
• Waterproof, nitrogen-filled body: The sealed binocular is waterproof and filled with nitrogen gas. That filling prevents internal condensation when temperatures change.
• Central focus control: A central wheel brings the view into focus. It’s easy to reach while holding the binocular, so you can adjust quickly as your subject moves.
• Individual dioptre adjustment: A grooved ring beneath the right eyepiece adjusts the dioptre for the user. The added grip makes this small but important setting easier to turn accurately.
• Twist-up eyecups: The eyecups extend and retract to suit the way you look through the binocular. The SVII also has a tripod socket for mounting when a fixed position is useful.

Good to know

The SVII 10x42 focuses on subjects from 4 m away, so it can cover nearby details as well as distant views. Its exit pupil is 4.2 mm; the stated brightness value is 17.6 and the twilight factor is 20.5. The body is finished in green. These details round out the binocular’s viewing range and physical specification beyond its magnification and objective size.
