Laowa 9mm T5.8 VV Cine Lens - ARRI PL (VE958MLPL)

Laowa 9mm T5.8 VV Cine Lens - ARRI PL | Broad, cinematic framing

For expansive establishing shots, close interior scenes and bold perspectives in a film, the Laowa 9mm T5.8 VV Cine Lens - ARRI PL gives you a very wide view to work with. It’s an ultra-wide prime with a 9mm focal length, a maximum aperture of T5.8 and a PL mount. The lens is made for video and filmmaking, with manual focus for deliberate control over where the image is sharp. That combination suits filmmakers who want to make the space around a subject part of the shot, from a room’s layout to the scale of a location. A 9mm view asks you to pay attention to the frame’s edges as well as its centre; camera position and what you include in the composition matter. It’s a specialist perspective, rather than an everyday focal length.

Working with a 9mm view

This lens is most at home when the wide perspective is part of the visual plan: a location-setting shot, a confined interior or a scene where the surroundings need to remain visible around the subject. Manual focus lets you set focus with intention as you compose. The PL mount places the lens in a PL setup, while its T5.8 maximum aperture is a practical consideration when planning the lighting for a scene.
