Laowa Venus 105mm f/2.0 Smooth Trans Focus Lens - Pentax K

Laowa Venus 105mm f/2.0 Smooth Trans Focus Lens - Pentax K | Fast portrait reach with manual focus

Laowa Venus 105mm f/2.0 Smooth Trans Focus Lens - Pentax K is a 105mm short-telephoto prime with a maximum aperture of f/2, designed for photographers working with Pentax K cameras. It suits portrait makers and event photographers who want a tighter view of people without standing right beside them. At f/2, it can help in dimmer indoor light and gives you room to keep attention on your subject against a softer background. Focus is manual, so it suits photographers who prefer to place focus themselves rather than rely on autofocus. The Smooth Trans Focus name is part of this lens’s identity; its core appeal is a fast 105mm prime with direct manual focusing. On a Pentax APS-C body, its field of view is comparable to a 157.5mm lens on full frame, making framing tighter still. That reach can be handy for portraits and candid event details when you want to work at some distance.

Working distance and composition

With a short telephoto prime, where you stand shapes your framing. For a portrait, stepping back can give your subject room and help keep the session relaxed. At an event, that same distance can let you frame a face or gesture without getting in the middle of the moment. Manual focusing rewards a measured approach, so this lens makes more sense for considered portraits and carefully timed moments than for hurried, unpredictable action.
