Marumi Circ Pola Filter 43 mm
Marumi Circ Pola Filter 43 mm | Control reflections in bright scenes
Bright reflections can obscure detail in water, glass and shiny leaves, while a pale sky can make a landscape feel flat. The Marumi Circ Pola Filter is a circular polarizing filter for photographers who want more control over those effects in daylight. Rotate the filter as you look through the camera to vary the polarization and see the change in the scene. It can reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces and deepen the appearance of a blue sky, which is especially useful for landscapes, travel photography and scenes with water or windows. The effect depends on the light and your angle to the subject, so it’s something to adjust as you compose rather than a fixed setting. This filter is best suited to deliberate outdoor shooting, where you can take a moment to judge the result. It does reduce the light reaching the camera, so factor that in when choosing your exposure.
Specialist Note
A polarizer takes light away, so I wouldn’t leave it on when you need every bit of shutter speed. For daylight scenes where reflections are the distraction, though, that trade-off can make sense. The 43 mm diameter is the detail to match to your lens’s filter thread; it keeps this option specific to lenses that accept that size. For a lake or shop window, rotate the filter while watching the viewfinder or screen until the reflection is reduced to the level you want. The black colour gives it a discreet look on the front of the lens. It suits photographers who enjoy fine-tuning a composition rather than relying on a fixed effect.
