Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II M42 Mount
Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II M42 Mount | Bright portrait reach
Portraits can feel a little too close or busy when your lens doesn’t give you room to frame your subject cleanly. The Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II is a short telephoto prime for photographers who want a more considered portrait view, with a maximum aperture of f/1.9 for working with available light and creating a shallow depth of field. That makes it well suited to portraits and event photography, where you may want your subject to hold attention against a less prominent background. It’s an interchangeable lens for photographers who enjoy setting focus and composition with care rather than relying on autofocus. At events, it can help you make a tighter frame without stepping right up to your subject; for portraits, the 75mm focal length gives you room to work while keeping the person in front of you as the focus of the image. It’s a specialist prime, not an all-purpose zoom.
Specialist Note
“Is the Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II a good fit for portraits?” Yes, especially if you’re happy to focus for yourself. The manual focus means you can take time to place focus precisely on your subject’s eye; for a still portrait, that deliberate approach suits the lens well. Its M42 mount is also a key practical point: this is for photographers whose setup uses that mount. For an event, I’d use it when subjects pause or move predictably, rather than depend on it for fast, constantly changing action. It rewards a considered pace, and that’s the honest trade-off.
