Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 II Leica L-Mount | Deliberate focus for intimate portraits

Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 II Leica L-Mount is a 100mm short telephoto prime with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. It’s built for Leica L-mount photographers who prefer to focus manually and want a considered, close-framed view of people. The 100mm focal length suits portraits particularly well: you can compose around your subject without making the scene feel wide, and it’s also a useful perspective for event details and quieter moments. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work with available light and to separate a person from a less prominent background. This isn’t an autofocus lens for grabbing fleeting moments without thought. It rewards a steady approach, with time to place focus carefully. Choose it for portrait sessions, or for events where you can anticipate a moment and frame it before it passes.

Specialist Note

In the soft light of a reception room, a guest pauses by the window and the Trioplan’s 100mm view brings the portrait in close without crowding the moment. I’d open to f/2.8 when the light is fading, then take a beat to place manual focus precisely on the nearer eye. That combination suits unhurried portraits and event details where you can choose your moment, rather than chasing fast action. The manual focus is the trade-off: it asks for attention when people move quickly. For a seated portrait, though, that deliberate pace can be part of the pleasure.
