Nikon HB-32 Lens Hood For AF-S 18-70mm/18-135mm
Nikon HB-32 Lens Hood For AF-S 18-70mm/18-135mm | Helps block stray light
Without a hood, light coming in from the side can reach the front of a lens and contribute to unwanted flare. The Nikon HB-32 is a lens hood made for the AF-S 18-70mm and AF-S 18-135mm lenses, giving owners of either lens a dedicated way to shade the front while shooting. It’s most useful when a bright window, the sun or another strong light source sits just outside your frame. That makes it a practical accessory for outdoor scenes and backlit subjects, where a little control over stray light can help keep contrast from looking washed out. It won’t remove reflections that are already in the scene, and it can’t compensate for light aimed directly into the lens. But for the lenses named here, it’s a straightforward fit-specific option rather than a generic hood to guess at.
When it helps
For a portrait with a bright window just beyond the edge of the frame, fit the hood before composing so it can shade the lens from that off-frame light. The same approach can help when framing a landscape with the sun to one side. Keep the light source outside the picture; the hood is there to manage stray light, not to hide the sun once it’s in the frame.
Specialist Note
This hood has a specific job, so it won’t help if the flare comes from a light source shining straight into the lens. Still, I’d recommend it to someone using the AF-S 18-70mm or 18-135mm who wants a hood made for that pairing, rather than an unspecified accessory. The black finish is a quiet, practical look on the lens, and the HB-32 is a simple way to shade it when bright light is just outside your composition. I’d reach for it for side-lit outdoor scenes or a subject against a bright window, while keeping that light source out of the frame.
