Nikon HN-13 86mm Lens Hood 72mm Polariser
Nikon HN-13 86mm Lens Hood 72mm Polariser | Shade stray light and manage reflections
Without a hood, bright light from outside the frame can wash across a scene; a polariser helps with a different problem, reflections. The Nikon HN-13 brings those two jobs together for photographers who already use a 72mm polariser and want a hood made for that pairing. It’s a specialist accessory rather than a general-purpose add-on, so its appeal is in combining light shading with polariser use. That can be useful when photographing reflective surfaces, or when strong light is reaching the front of the lens from an angle. The HN-13 is worth considering if those are regular concerns in your photography and the stated sizes match your setup. It’s a more specific purchase than choosing a hood by appearance alone: the 86mm hood and 72mm polariser designations both matter.
Specialist Note
“Is the HN-13 intended for a 72mm polariser?” Yes—the product name pairs that polariser size with an 86mm lens hood. I’d pay attention to both numbers when you’re matching it to your kit: the 72mm reference is the one to compare with your polariser, while the hood is identified as 86mm. For reflections in water or glass, adjust the polariser as you compose until the reflection is reduced to the level you want; the hood’s role is to shade the lens from stray light. It suits photographers who regularly face both issues. Just don’t treat the Nikon name alone as proof it fits every Nikon lens.
