PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 49mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 49mm - McKinnon Series | Control exposure and reflections with softened highlights
On a bright day, you may want to manage both the light reaching your lens and reflections in the scene, without giving up the softer highlight look of Black Mist. This PolarPro filter combines variable ND and polarizing functions with that Black Mist effect in one filter. Its 2–5 range gives you adjustable light reduction, while the polarizing element is useful for managing reflections; the Black Mist treatment softens the rendering of highlights. That combination will appeal to filmmakers and photographers who want to work with these effects together, especially in daylight scenes with reflective surfaces. The 49mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with a matching filter thread. It’s part of the McKinnon Series, and its appeal is quite specific: a combined filter for exposure control, polarization and a misted highlight look.
Specialist Note
The 49mm filter size is the first practical detail: match it to a lens with a 49mm filter thread, and you’ve got the right diameter. The VND range marked 2–5 gives you a modest span of light reduction to work with in bright daylight, rather than a very deep ND range. I’d consider it for outdoor video where you want to adjust exposure and keep reflections in check, or for reflective glass or water when you also want the Black Mist look on highlights. That combination is the point here. If you need stronger light reduction than the marked range offers, this filter may not cover that situation on its own.
