PolarPro Goldstache Filter - 55mm Threaded

PolarPro Goldstache Filter - 55mm Threaded | Control reflections and sky tone

Reflections in a shop window or glare on water can distract from the subject you’re trying to photograph. The PolarPro Goldstache is a polarizing filter with a 55mm threaded connection, giving photographers with a matching lens a way to manage some of that reflected light in-camera. It’s suited to outdoor scenes, travel photography and everyday shooting around glass or water, where reflections can obscure detail. A polarizer can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky when the shooting angle and light are right. The effect varies with the scene, so it’s better thought of as a tool for selective control than a fix for every bright reflection. The Goldstache name identifies this filter, but the supplied product details don’t establish any particular colour effect, so I wouldn’t buy it on that assumption.

Where it helps

For a view through a window, change your position until the reflection is less prominent, then see whether the polarizing effect improves the view. Around water, it can help reduce surface glare so more of the scene beneath is visible. For skies, the result depends on the direction of the light and your framing; the effect can be uneven across a very wide view. These are situations where a polarizer can make a visible difference, but it won’t remove every reflection, especially those from metal surfaces.
