Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Black (Pair)
Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Black (Pair) | Help tame wind on lavalier speech
For spoken-word recording where wind around a microphone can distract from the voice, the Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Black (Pair) is a compact option for lavalier microphones. It’s a pair of black windshields, suited to interviewers, small video crews and anyone recording dialogue with lav mics. Use one on each microphone when recording a two-person conversation, or keep the second for another mic placement. The aim is simple: put a windshield at the microphone so wind hitting the mic is less prominent in the recording. The black finish is a low-key match for dark clothing and setups. These are focused accessories for lavalier speech capture, rather than a solution for reducing wind across a whole recording space. If your work depends on clear dialogue in breezy conditions, this pair gives you a straightforward way to protect two mic positions.
Specialist Note
Wind hitting a lav mic can quickly pull attention away from the speaker; these Mini Urchins put the wind protection right at the microphone. Since it’s a pair, you can prepare two lav positions for a face-to-face interview instead of moving one windshield between speakers. I’d use one on each mic and keep both placements consistent, especially if you’re cutting the conversation together later. The black finish makes sense when the microphones sit against dark clothing or a dark setup. They’re for lavalier microphones specifically, so think of them as a close-up aid for dialogue—not a fix for gusts across an entire location.
