Revar Cine 138mm Close Up Diopter +3
Revar Cine 138mm Close Up Diopter +3 | Bring fine details closer
The close-up optical design is the defining choice here: it lets a cine lens focus on subjects at a shorter distance, opening up tighter views of details. The Revar Cine 138mm Close Up Diopter +3 is for cinematographers who want to move in on textures, small objects or carefully framed details without changing the subject itself. It’s especially suited to planned close-up shots where the lens and subject can be positioned deliberately, rather than scenes that need a broad range of focus distances. Use it to give a detail more of the frame, then compose around the close working distance. That makes it a focused tool for inserts and close views, rather than an all-purpose filter. If your shot needs to shift quickly between a nearby subject and distant action, a close-up diopter may not suit that change of focus.
Specialist Note
Cinematographers filming product details, textures or small objects are the people I’d point towards this diopter. Its +3 strength is intended to bring the focus range closer, so start with the lens focused near its close limit and move the camera or subject to settle the framing. The 138mm size is the practical detail to match to your filtration setup; it’s a substantial format, so plan the shot around the gear that accepts it. I’d use it for a deliberate close insert, not a shot that needs to travel from near to far in one take. That narrower purpose is exactly where this accessory makes sense.
