Rodenstock PLC Digital Pro 72mm
Rodenstock PLC Digital Pro 72mm | Control reflections and sky contrast
Rodenstock PLC Digital Pro 72mm is a 72 mm polarizing filter for photographers who want to manage reflections and the appearance of skies in-camera. It suits landscape and travel photographers, as well as anyone shooting through glass or working with reflective surfaces, where glare can hide colour and detail. A polarizer can reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces and deepen a blue sky when the sun is at a suitable angle. The result depends on your position relative to the light; it won't remove every reflection or improve every sky. The 72mm designation identifies the filter diameter, so it’s intended for lenses that take 72mm filters. Choose it for deliberate control of reflections and contrast, rather than as a general protective filter. In changing light, assess the effect in the viewfinder before settling your composition and exposure.
What to expect from a polarizer
Polarizing filtration reduces the light reaching the camera, so you may need a slower shutter speed or a higher ISO to maintain your exposure. The effect is strongest when the light, subject and camera position are at a helpful angle to one another. This makes it a considered tool for particular scenes, rather than a filter to leave on without thought.
Specialist Note
Photographers framing shop windows, lakesides or broad skies will see the point of the Rodenstock PLC Digital Pro 72mm. I’d explain the 72mm marking first: it’s the filter diameter, so it’s for a lens specified to take a 72mm filter. As a polarizer, its value is selective control of reflections. Try it when photographing through glass, or use it to deepen a sky when the sun is off to the side; judge the change in the viewfinder as you compose. It won’t remove every reflection, and the sky effect can vary across a wide view. If those subjects are regular work for you, it’s a purposeful filter to reach for when the scene calls for it.
