Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV True-Streak Blue 3mm 4x5.65
Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV True-Streak Blue 3mm 4x5.65 | Blue light streaks for a cinematic look
Blue streaks from bright point lights can give a night scene or a carefully lit interior a distinctive cinematic accent. The Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV True-Streak Blue 3mm 4x5.65 is a colour filter made for that kind of in-camera effect: place a small, bright light in the composition and it can become a blue streak rather than simply a point of light. The 3mm designation identifies the streak variant, while 4x5.65 gives the filter format to match to your setup. It’s aimed at filmmakers and image-makers who want to shape practical lights as they shoot, rather than add the effect later in editing. It’s most convincing when there are clear, bright light sources against a darker or uncluttered background. This is a focused creative tool, not a general-purpose colour correction filter; its appeal is the specific blue streak look.
Using the effect
Start with a scene that has a few distinct light sources, such as street lamps at night or practical lights in a controlled interior. Keep those lights visible in the frame and give their streaks room to read against the background. A busy arrangement of bright sources can make the effect feel crowded, so try a simpler composition first. The filter’s blue streak is part of the image as you capture it, making it useful when you want the look to inform framing and lighting decisions on set.
Specialist Note
The 3mm streak specification is the detail I’d use to distinguish this version: it gives you a defined streak effect without turning the filter into a general blue colour wash. The 4x5.65 format matters at the counter because you’ll want your filter holder to accept that format before planning a setup. I’d suggest it to a filmmaker shaping visible practical lights, or to a photographer building a night scene around a few bright sources. Keep the lights distinct in the frame and let the blue lines become part of the composition. It’s a deliberately specific effect, so it pairs best with a shot that has a clear reason for that blue accent.
