Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC (C) RF
Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC (C) RF | Wide views when the light fades
Sigma’s defining choice is pairing a 15mm ultra-wide focal length with a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. That gives you a broad view while keeping a generous aperture available as the light drops. The Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC (C) RF is an interchangeable prime for Canon RF cameras with APS-C sensors, suited to photographers drawn to landscapes, architecture and night skies. It’s at its best when the width of the scene matters: a sweep of coastline, the lines of a building or a patch of sky filled with stars. The f/1.4 aperture also gives you more exposure flexibility after sunset. This is a focused tool rather than an all-purpose zoom, so it makes most sense when you’re happy to compose around a fixed focal length instead of changing your framing from where you stand.
Key details
- 87° angle of view for taking in a broad scene
- Autofocus for setting focus as you compose
Make the wide view work
For architecture, use the broad framing to include a building and its surroundings, then pay attention to keeping the camera level as you compose. In a landscape, look for a clear foreground element to give the wide scene a sense of depth. These are situations where a fixed ultra-wide view can help you build a deliberate composition.
Specialist Note
A wide composition is quick to establish here, and the autofocus keeps focusing straightforward while you work on the framing. I’d point this lens towards night skies first: start at f/1.4, keep your exposure short enough to hold stars as points, then adjust ISO for the conditions. On a Canon APS-C RF-S body, 15mm gives a 24mm full-frame-equivalent view, which is wide without being an extreme fisheye-style perspective. That suits landscape and architectural work too. One thing to bear in mind: if you want a much wider view on an APS-C body, this focal length has a natural limit.
