Sigma Lens Hood 17-40mm f/1.8 (LH728-02)
Sigma Lens Hood 17-40mm f/1.8 (LH728-02) | Helps keep stray light at bay
Bright light coming in from the side can cause flare and reduce contrast in a photograph. A lens hood helps limit that stray light, making it a simple accessory to consider when shooting outdoors or near a bright window. The Sigma Lens Hood LH728-02 is named for the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 lens, so it’s for photographers who use that lens and want a hood intended for it. Its main job is practical: help manage unwanted light while you frame your shot, without changing how you use the lens. It’s particularly useful when the sun or another bright source sits just outside your composition. If you’re choosing an accessory for this specific Sigma lens, this hood keeps the purchase focused on the right lens rather than a generic option.
Specialist Note
A hood can’t prevent flare from every bright source, but this one is named for a lens with a broad 17–40mm range, which makes it a considered match for that specific zoom. At 17mm, I’d use it while framing a wide outdoor scene and keep direct sunlight just outside the picture; at 40mm, it makes sense for an outdoor portrait when bright light is coming from off to the side. The f/1.8 designation is useful context: you may choose a wide aperture in dimmer light, but the hood’s role is still controlling stray light, not changing exposure. For owners of the named Sigma lens, it’s a straightforward accessory with a clear purpose.
