The Sirui Astra Series 50mm T1.8 takes a different route: its 1.33x squeeze gives filmmakers anamorphic framing to work with in post, while its blue flare adds a distinctive look when bright light enters the frame. This is a full-frame standard prime for Nikon Z, made for video and filmmaking rather than quick, hands-off shooting. Its 50mm focal length suits dialogue, details and composed shots where you can place the camera deliberately. The T1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in lower light and to shape focus around your subject. It’s a considered choice for filmmakers who want the visual character of anamorphic capture and are happy to set focus manually and handle the footage in their editing workflow.

Specialist Note

Manual focus is a real commitment here, but it’s also why this lens makes sense for a planned take rather than a fast, reactive one. At T1.8, you can keep a scene moving in dimmer light without immediately pushing ISO, while the shallow focus can help separate a face from the background. I’d suggest it to Nikon Z filmmakers working on controlled dialogue scenes or close details: set your framing, rehearse the focus move, then keep the subject’s distance consistent through the take.
