SmallRig 4227 Cine Filter 4x5.65 ND1.8 (6 Stop)
SmallRig 4227 Cine Filter 4x5.65 ND1.8 (6 Stop) | Cut light for controlled exposure
Bright scenes can make it hard to keep the exposure you want; this cine ND filter reduces incoming light by six stops, giving you more room to choose your exposure. The SmallRig 4227 is an ND1.8 filter in a 4 x 5.65 format, suited to filmmakers and camera crews who work with filters of that size. Use the light reduction to keep your chosen aperture in bright conditions, or to lengthen the shutter time when you want motion to appear smoother. It’s especially useful when daylight would otherwise force you to change settings that matter to the look of a shot. The six-stop reduction is substantial, so it’s worth treating this as a deliberate exposure tool rather than a light adjustment you’ll leave in place for every scene.
Specialist Note
First-time ND users often expect a filter to make only a small exposure adjustment; this one cuts enough light to change your options considerably. The 4 x 5.65 format makes it relevant if your setup is built around filters of that size, so plan the filter stage around that format. In strong daylight, it can help you keep your chosen aperture instead of stopping down just to control exposure. For a long-exposure effect, six stops can take a starting shutter speed of 1/125 second to roughly 1/2 second at the same ISO and aperture, which can smooth moving water. That’s a big reduction, and in low light you may need to remove it rather than keep it in place.
