SmallRig 4980B Cage For Nikon Z50II
SmallRig 4980B Cage For Nikon Z50II - Integrated Arca-Swiss quick-release plate
The defining difference of the SmallRig 4980B Cage for Nikon Z50II is its integrated Arca-Swiss quick-release plate, which connects the camera rig directly to Arca-type tripods and supported DJI RS stabilisers. Nikon Z50II owners moving between tripod, handheld and gimbal setups can switch between them without removing the cage. The close fit keeps camera controls and interfaces accessible, while mounting points around the frame support a more built-out rig. Use the cage for a tripod-mounted interview setup, then add a microphone or LED light using a cold shoe mount. For a monitor-equipped video rig, the threaded and locating points accommodate an optional monitor mount. It’s a focused accessory for adding support and mounting options to the Z50II, with the quick-release base especially handy when a shoot calls for both steady tripod framing and stabilised movement.
On location
- Secure three-point fit: A 1/4"-20 screw underneath and locating blocks on both sides hold the camera in place. The locking arrangement is designed to prevent shifting, and installation doesn’t require removing a D-ring.
- Camera-friendly contact: Silicone padding sits between the cage and camera to guard against scratches. The close-fitting shape leaves the Z50II’s buttons and interfaces unobstructed.
- Accessory mounting points: Multiple 1/4"-20 threaded and locating holes accept optional accessories such as side handles, magic arms, HDMI cable clamps and monitor mounts.
- Top mounting options: ARRI 3/8"-16 locating holes and a NATO rail provide additional mounting choices for compatible handles and monitor supports.
- Cold shoes and strap fittings: Two integrated cold shoe mounts take accessories such as a microphone or LED light. QD interfaces and strap holes provide attachment points for compatible shoulder or wrist straps.
Specialist Note
New cage owners sometimes focus on adding accessories and overlook how the cage itself affects the grip; this one includes a pinkie support, giving your little finger a more definite place to rest. At 134 g, it adds a modest amount of weight to a compact Z50II setup, while its 141.8 × 62.0 × 106.6 mm frame gives you mounting points around the camera. For handheld clips, use the support for a steadier-feeling hold; for carrying between setups, attach a compatible strap at the QD interface. I’d choose this cage for a Z50II video kit that needs both grip support and quick changes between tripod and gimbal work.
